Regulation & Trust

Rating: 4.5

eToro is a reliable, highly trusted trading platform.

Knowing it’s authorized by reputable authorities like the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), and Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) should give you confidence that it’s secure and compliant with all the necessary regulations.

Of course, trading always comes with risks, but I appreciate that eToro keeps my funds separate from its operational ones, adding an extra layer of security.

Plus, just like IG, XTB and CMC Markets, it uses encryption to protect customer data, which makes me feel even more at ease while using the platform.

Accounts & Banking

Rating: 4.0

For me, eToro has been a solid choice, whether I was just starting or gaining more experience in trading.

It’s great how simple the account options are, and the variety of payment methods makes things super convenient.

Since it handles EUR, GBP, and USD, I’ve saved on conversion fees, especially as a European user.

That said, the $5 withdrawal fee and $30 minimum can be a bit annoying, but it’s nice to know that Platinum members get some discounts on that front.

By comparison, Pepperstone, Eightcap and FxPro have no minimum withdrawal amount, allowing me to withdraw even small sums of money from my accounts.

Live Account

When I opened my account with eToro, I was surprised at how quick and easy it was, with just a $10 minimum deposit.

Depending on your location, that first deposit can range from $10 to $10,000, but I noticed that most people, like me, start with around $250 to $500.

I really appreciate having access to a wide range of markets, tools, and resources from a single account – it keeps things simple.

If you’re particular about account conditions like ECN pricing for active day trading, eToro might not be the best fit. In that case, you might want to check out IC Markets or Exness instead.

Deposits & Withdrawals

eToro gives you plenty of payment options – you can use bank transfers, credit card or debit cards, PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, and a few others.

Deposits are free and quick, sometimes even instant, which is super convenient.

Withdrawals, on the other hand, take a bit more time because of the security checks, so I’ve had to wait anywhere from a few days to about a week.

One feature I’ve found really helpful is the eToro Money app – it makes managing my cryptocurrencies and funds much easier.

Just something to remember: funds are converted to USD when trading US equities, and I’ve noticed the conversion rates aren’t always the best. Also, unlike FP Markets and EagleFX, you can’t fund my account with cryptocurrencies.

Demo Account

What I really love about eToro is the demo account – it gives you $100,000 in virtual funds to practice with, completely risk-free.

It’s been super helpful to test out different manual trading strategies, explore various assets, and even try copying other traders’ moves without the pressure of using real money.

This demo was a game-changer when I was new to online trading, and it’s a great way to build confidence before diving in for real.

Popular Investor

One of the coolest features I’ve encountered on eToro is the Popular Investor Program, where other people can copy my trades.

It has four tiers: Cadet, Champion, Elite, and Elite Pro. I found out that to hit the Champion level and earn $500 a month commission, I’d need over $10,000 in equity, at least $50,000 from copiers following me, and a daily risk score below seven for four months straight.

The perks are great, too. There are fee discounts and steady monthly payments, and if I ever make it to the Elite level, there’s even a 1.5% bonus on assets under management (AUM).

It’s a nice incentive to sharpen my trading skills!

Assets & Markets

Rating: 3.8

What really stands out about eToro is its incredible range of trading options.

You can explore so many popular asset classes across different regions all in one place.

With over 6,000 instruments available, eToro surpasses some big names like AvaTrade and Pepperstone.

You have access to 55 forex pairs, 432 ETFs, 21 global stock indices, 32 different commodities, and more than 4,100 global stocks – including some of the top stocks from Dubai.

eToro offers many assets including stocks, crypto, indices, ETFs, forex, and commodities

One of the features I appreciate most as a beginner is the ability to buy fractional shares. It’s made investing much more approachable since I don’t have to commit to purchasing full shares.

eToro is a real leader in crypto. On the dashboard alone, toy have access to over 100 different cryptocurrencies (though availability can vary depending on where you are).

I’ve also noticed that eToro is constantly adding new tokens as they gain traction in the market, which keeps things exciting.

Another feature I find super convenient is out-of-hours stock trading. I can trade major US stocks like Tesla, Amazon, and Netflix during extended hours, which gives me more flexibility.

At the time of writing, I have 45 extended-hours stocks available in my account.

Overall, eToro offers many diverse trading opportunities, making it easy to explore different markets and assets from one platform.

Fees & Costs

Rating: 2.8

Trading Fees

eToro offers pretty competitive spreads and low non-trading fees, even if it’s not the absolute lowest compared to other brokers we’ve tested.

For major currency pairs like EUR/USD, the spreads are around 1.0 pip. While that’s decent, it’s not as tight as the near-zero spreads you might find with ECN brokers like Fusion Markets – though those often come with extra commission fees on top of the spreads.

Here’s a quick comparison of some assets I’ve tracked during peak market hours:

  • EUR/USD: 1.0 pip
  • Platinum: 35 pips
  • Dow Jones Industrial Average: 6 points

One feature I really appreciate is being able to buy stocks commission-free, whether I’m purchasing in bulk or just grabbing fractional shares starting from as little as $10. It makes investing feel super flexible.

For crypto, eToro charges a flat 1% fee, which is added to the market’s bid/ask price. It’s something to keep in mind when trading, but overall, the fees pretty straightforward and easy to manage.

Non-Trading Fees

Since I trade on eToro, I’ve noticed that if I’m dealing with currencies outside of USD, EUR, or GBP, there can be some conversion fees depending on my account’s denomination and the current market rates.

I keep an eye on it, especially when trading in different currencies.

One thing you have to watch out for is the inactivity fee. If you don’t log in to your account for 12 months, eToro will charge you a $10 monthly fee on whatever balance is left.

It’s not an issue for me since I’m pretty active, but it’s something to consider if you’re more of a casual investor.

We’ve also evaluated other brokers, like Interactive Brokers and Saxo, which don’t charge inactivity fees. These could be a better option if you don’t trade as often.

Platforms & Tools

Rating: 2.8

eToro shines with its feature-rich app and all-in-one account dashboard, earning a high rating for platforms and tools.

Web Platform

eToro’s interface is straightforward to use. I can easily access it from my web browser or through the mobile app on both iOS and Android, and it works smoothly whether I’m on my PC or Mac.

The simple design made everything so much easier to navigate when I was starting out.

eToro provides price projections based on market analysis and expert insights

That said, some more experienced traders might miss having third-party tools like MetaTrader 5 (MT5), but the built-in features will be more than enough for most retail traders.

I appreciate how I can view my assets in three different modes:

  • Overview: This gives you all the key details you need—performance stats, relevant news, and a community feed to see what others say.
  • Chart: Real-time charts with solid technical analysis tools that help you dive deeper into trends.
  • News: Get live updates from top news sources, which keeps you informed on the go.

Everything you need, including educational resources, is in one seamless dashboard, which makes managing trades feel straightforward.

Charting Tools

One of the things I enjoy about using eToro is that it integrates powerful charting tools from TradingView.

You get access to nine different chart types and over 100 technical indicators, including favorites like Bollinger Bands and the Relative Strength Index.

Plus, tons of drawing tools let you dive into the details when you’re analyzing trends.

Screenshot showing eToro's trading plaform

eToro’s platform is user-friendly, but advanced analysis tools are limited to ProCharts

However, I’ve noticed that some advanced features, like ProCharts, are only available to higher-tier users, which can be limiting.

Also, if you’re into automated trading systems like MetaTrader 4 (MT4), eToro doesn’t support those, which might be a downside for some. IC Markets, by comparison, offers four trading platforms: MT4, MT5, cTrader, and TradingView.

However, the built-in tools have been more than enough for my trading style to get the job done.

CopyTrader

Image showing eToro's copy trading feature

eToro’s copy trading lets you replicate the trades of successful investors with ease

I’ve found eToro’s CopyTrader feature to be a game-changer. It lets me copy the trades of other investors, which has been a great way to learn and diversify my portfolio.

I can easily filter traders by risk level and asset type, so finding someone who matches my strategy is pretty straightforward.

Even though I’m copying trades, I still have complete control. Honestly, though, I just set and forget when I copy-trade someone.

I can set my own stop-loss and take-profit limits to manage risk effectively, which gives me peace of mind while I try different strategies.

Mobile App

I’ve been using the eToro mobile app on my iPhone, and it’s great how it offers full trading functionality, just like the web platform.

It’s available on iOS and Android and keeps getting updated regularly, which is reassuring.

I can trade in real time, check historical data, and even contact customer support – all from my phone. It’s super convenient, especially when I’m on the go.

Research

Rating: 2.8

One thing I’ve appreciated about eToro over the years is how much the research tools have improved.

With a high research rating, it’s becoming more competitive in the trading world.

I especially like the weekly video updates with market analysis and the in-house articles – they’ve helped me stay on top of trends and feel more informed, putting eToro in the same league as brokers like IG.

The platform also offers an economic calendar, earnings reports, news headlines, and the Digest & Invest podcast series, which is insightful.

eToro's trading podcasts

eToro’s Digest & Invest podcasts provide in-depth market analysis and investment insights

That said, not all of these features are fully integrated into the platform, which can be inconvenient when you try to keep everything in one place.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that access to Finchat Pro is only available to certain Club members, and you need a funded account to view stock research reports.

While eToro does a solid job with fundamental analysis through its platform and blogs, I’ve found that its technical analysis tools aren’t quite as strong as those of platforms like IG.

One interesting feature is how eToro uses sentiment data from top traders, like CMC Markets does, instead of pulling from the entire user base.

But honestly, if it improved its technical analysis tools, it could really elevate things like the Analyst Weekly series.

I’d also like to see eToro make research tools more accessible – like fully integrating the Digest & Invest podcast into the platform. It would make the whole experience even smoother.

Education

Rating: 3.0

eToro is strong when it comes to educational resources. It’s clear it takes learning seriously.

Its Learning Academy and blogs have many videos, articles, and webinars, all tailored to different experience levels.

Beginner traders should find these resources helpful in understanding trading instruments and key investment concepts.

Image showing an eToro YouTube video

eToro’s YouTube channel offers valuable market insights, webinars, and educational content

I also check out eToro’s YouTube channel pretty often. It has a ton of content, including archived webinars and market analyses, that help me stay informed.

The only downside I’ve noticed is that it can sometimes be tricky to differentiate between research, promotional material, and purely educational content.

If it could organize everything more clearly, it would make navigating the resources even easier and more effective.

Customer Support

Rating: 2.0

eToro does a great job in many areas, but its customer service could use some improvement – especially its response times.

The support team can help with things like account questions, fees, and trading guides, which is helpful.

However, support is only available 24/5, and the communication options are limited.

I have access to an online chatbot and can contact a live agent or submit a ticket, but there’s no direct phone line or email, which can be frustrating when you need quick answers.

Having an account manager can be a lifesaver in more urgent situations, but not everyone has one.

Because of these limitations, its customer support rating is fair, though it could be better.

Should You Trade With eToro?

eToro is a solid platform with much to offer. The interface is easy to navigate, and the copy trading features will be perfect for anyone still growing into their trading journey.

There’s a wide variety of assets to choose from, which suits different trading preferences, and the fact that eToro is highly regulated makes me feel secure about my investments.

There are some drawbacks, however.

Trading options can vary depending on your location, affecting market access, deposits, and payment methods.

Also, if you have a smaller account, you might encounter withdrawal fees, and some of the advanced charting tools are only available to those with larger accounts.

If you’re more interested in long-term copy trading and investing than in chasing ultra-low spreads for short-term trading, eToro is worth checking out.

It’s a remarkably versatile platform for investing in stocks and cryptocurrencies and trading CFDs like ETFs.
