Regulation & Trust

Rating: 3.3

Based on our assessment of regulation, corporate transparency, business age, size of client base, public listing status and lack of a banking license, we view eToro USA as high trust for U.S. stocks and options and moderate trust for crypto. This is supported by the firsthand experience of our team, several of whom hold live accounts with eToro and have made hundreds of real-money trades and dozens of deposits and withdrawals without issues.

The key thing to understand with eToro USA is that the brand is not the protection. The legal entity is. That matters more than usual here because eToro’s U.S. business is split between securities/options and crypto, and the protections are not the same.

  • For U.S. stocks, ETFs and options, clients are onboarded through eToro USA Securities Inc., a broker-dealer regulated by FINRA and a member of SIPC. This is the strongest sign-up route for client safety in the U.S. offering because it brings broker-dealer supervision, SIPC coverage for eligible securities accounts, and the normal framework of U.S. securities-market oversight.
  • For crypto trading in most U.S. states, clients use eToro USA LLC, which eToro lists under NMLS ID 1769299 and supports with a long state-by-state licensing and disclosure page here: State Disclosures. This is a meaningful compliance structure, but it is still materially different from broker-dealer protections. Crypto held through this route is not SIPC insured and there is no FDIC protection on crypto assets.
  • For New York crypto users, eToro routes activity through eToro NY LLC, which it lists with Money Transmitter License MT #104940 and Virtual Currency License VC #122584. New York’s virtual-currency framework is one of the more credible state-level regimes in the U.S., but it still does not turn a crypto account into a broker-dealer or bank-protected relationship.

One thing we do credit eToro USA for is that the trust case is stronger than many retail crypto-and-stock apps because the wider group is publicly listed on Nasdaq as ETOR, the company has been operating since 2007, and its February 2026 investor materials reported around 3.9 million funded accounts group-wide. We did not find any evidence that the U.S. operating entities hold a banking license, so this is not a bank-style protection model.

A major trust event still matters: the SEC settlement announced on September 12, 2024. That resulted in a much narrower U.S. crypto range for a period, after which eToro rebuilt the crypto menu through a series of public announcements, including May 2025, June 2025 and August 2025. That does not make the broker unsafe, but it does make eToro USA a platform where U.S. crypto traders should keep a close eye on regulatory developments and state-level availability.

Note the regulator classification below, which ranges from A to C, is based on our internal trust rating system.

eToro USA Regulatory Entities and Safeguards
Entity Verify License Regulator Classification (A to C) Retail Protections Who Gets Signed Up
eToro USA Securities Inc. FINRA BrokerCheck SEC/FINRA/SIPC (A – strong safeguards) Broker-dealer oversight, SIPC membership for eligible securities accounts, standard U.S. securities-market supervision. U.S. clients trading stocks, ETFs and options
eToro USA LLC State disclosures / NMLS 1769299 NA – not a financial regulator State licensing and compliance controls, but crypto is not SIPC or FDIC insured. Most U.S. crypto clients outside New York
eToro NY LLC NY MT #104940 / VC #122584 NA – not a financial regulator New York authorization for virtual-currency activity, but no SIPC or FDIC cover for crypto holdings. New York crypto clients

Check The URL

This is not a broker where U.S. visitors should rely on the global branding and assume the protections are obvious. The right landing point for Americans is etoro.com/en-us. The footer and legal pages should refer to eToro USA Securities Inc., eToro USA LLC and, where relevant, eToro NY LLC. If those legal names are missing, stop and verify before KYC or funding.

If you care about U.S. securities protections, verify the contracting entity in the account documents, not just the logo and homepage styling.

Check For Clones

We did not find evidence of an active clone warning specifically targeting eToro USA during our research, which included checking regulator and disclosure sources, but the anti-clone routine should still be followed because eToro is a globally recognizable retail-investing brand.

Checkpoint What To Look For
URL Extension Use the official U.S. route only: etoro.com/en-us.
Spelling Watch for lookalikes such as etoro-us.com, etorousa.co, etor0.com, etorro.com or e-toro.com.
Entity Name Stocks/options should point to eToro USA Securities Inc. Crypto should point to eToro USA LLC or eToro NY LLC depending on state.
Regulator Link Verify the broker-dealer independently on FINRA BrokerCheck and verify crypto/state disclosures independently before depositing. Footer text alone is not enough.

Accounts & Banking

Rating: 3.0

eToro USA keeps the core U.S. account structure simpler than the global eToro brand might lead you to expect:

  • Investing account: used for stocks, ETFs and crypto in the main eToro app and web platform.
  • Options account: handled through the separate eToro Options app.

The big thing to be clear about is what U.S. users do not get. There is no retail forex trading, no CFDs, and no leveraged offshore-style multi-asset account for U.S. visitors. That means eToro USA is not suited to American forex traders, CFD traders (CFDs are banned in the U.S.) or anyone looking for MetaTrader-style leveraged speculation.

It is much better suited to casual investors, copy traders and users who want stocks, ETFs, crypto and simple listed options in one ecosystem.

Operationally, the platform is cleaner than many traditional brokerages. We have an account and find the client area easy to navigate with smooth onboarding, watchlists, portfolio monitoring, deposits, withdrawals, tax documentation, and access to the virtual portfolio without much clutter. It is built for accessibility rather than depth.

Deposits & Withdrawals

Banking is relatively straightforward in the U.S. eToro has four funding methods for U.S. users: debit card, online banking, wire transfer and PayPal. Redeposits can be as low as $1. Debit-card first deposits can go up to $40,000 per transaction.

eToro’s public U.S. has $0 deposit fees, $0 withdrawal fees, and a standard $30 minimum withdrawal amount. In practice that makes the banking setup fairly user-friendly for smaller retail investors who want to test the platform without wiring in a large balance.

Demo Account

eToro USA offers a free virtual portfolio. Registered users get $100,000 in virtual funds, which is genuinely useful for checking platform fit, learning the ticket flow, testing watchlists and getting used to the copy-trading environment before live funding.

That lines up with our normal testing approach: the demo is useful for platform and workflow checks, but not a substitute for judging all the hurdles that only appear in live onboarding, cash movement and real-money decision-making.

Assets & Markets

Rating: 2.9

eToro USA is a multi-asset investing platform, but only within a fairly specific U.S. retail-investor lane. The U.S. selection includes:

  • U.S. stocks
  • ETFs
  • Listed options
  • 100+ cryptoassets following the August 2025 U.S. expansion update

This is a decent range for investors who want a broad retail menu in one place, especially if they want social features layered on top. But it is not built for U.S. traders who want futures, mutual funds, bonds, international market depth, direct-access routing, or a serious derivatives suites.

Geography matters too. Crypto is unavailable in Hawaii, Nevada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and some social features have had state-by-state limitations in the U.S. rollout. That makes eToro USA a platform where availability should be checked carefully before account opening, especially if crypto or CopyTrader is the main attraction.

When you do place trades, it’s easy to track P/L, fees and other key metrics in the My Portfolio section of the platform. You can see this below from our own account area.

Fees & Costs

Rating: 3.4

Pricing is straightforward and one of the easier parts of the U.S. setup and relatively competitive fort casual traders:

  • Stocks: commission-free.
  • Crypto: 1% to buy and 1% to sell.
  • Options: $0 broker commission and $0 per-contract fee, but standard pass-through charges still apply.

For options, eToro has specific pass-through fees including:

  • SEC fee: charged on sell transactions.
  • FINRA Trading Activity Fee (TAF)
  • Options Regulatory Fee (ORF): $0.02295 per contract
  • LQT fee: $0.02 per contract

That makes the cost structure attractive for low-frequency stock investors and fairly approachable for simpler options traders. The weak point is crypto. A 1% in / 1% out structure is easy to understand, but it is expensive relative to dedicated U.S. crypto venues, especially for active traders or anyone rebalancing frequently.

There is no hidden platform-fee angle here. The main ongoing costs are the ones you would expect: trading fees, spreads/market pricing, and market/regulatory charges where applicable. Spreads aren’t the cheapest, however.

Fees & Costs Details

  • Inactivity Fee: $10
  • Crypto Spread: BTC 0.75%

Execution

Execution is not the reason to choose eToro USA. It is not as an execution-first venue ensuring low latency and the rapid execution speeds of sub 100ms that some short-term traders seek.

This means for investors placing occasional stock, ETF or crypto trades, it is perfectly workable. For high-frequency options traders, serious day traders or anyone who cares deeply about routing precision and advanced order control, this is not the strongest fit.

Platforms & Tools

Rating: 3.5

eToro USA uses its own proprietary web and mobile platform rather than MT4, MT5 or other third-party trading software. U.S. options are handled through the separate eToro Options app.

That gives the experience a very different feel from traditional brokers. Our team has spent hundreds of hours in the eToro platform and app combined. It has a distinct look and feel, it’s intuitive for newer traders, clean order tickets, and clear charts with many of the indicators, drawing tools, chart types, and timeframes aspiring traders use.

The platform is centered on watchlists, social feed functionality, portfolio visibility, instrument pages, and copy-trading profiles rather than deep chart customisation or complex professional trading layouts. It is easier to learn than many legacy platforms, but it is also thinner for users who want advanced technical analysis, multi-window setups, or broad desktop configurability.

For the right trader, that is a strength. For the wrong trader, it is a limitation. Beginner and intermediate investors will generally find it intuitive. Experienced active traders will likely find it too simplified.

Web Platform

Mobile App

Mobile is a core part of the eToro USA proposition, not a stripped-down afterthought. Public sentiment from the Apple and Android app stores reflects that.

The pattern in those ratings is what matters. Users consistently praise the clean layout, straightforward navigation and accessibility for newer investors. The recurring negatives center on support delays, document verification friction, and occasional confusion around transaction costs or account restrictions. That overall sentiment feels credible for a mobile-first investing platform serving a broad retail audience.

It also aligns with our own experience using the trading app – it’s user friendly, has most of the features found in the web platform, and is routinely updated with new tools and assets.

Copy Trading

Copy trading is one of the clearest reasons to consider eToro USA. The company announced the U.S. rollout of CopyTrader in October 2025, allowing U.S. users to copy eligible U.S. traders across stocks, ETFs and cryptoassets.

The useful part is that CopyTrader does not add a separate platform fee. The costs remain the underlying trading costs. The limits also matter: CopyTrader is not available in eToro Options, so options remain a separate lane.

One of our testing panel has extensive hands-on experience with eToro’s copy trading service, becoming a ‘popular investor’ and having his live trades and strategies followed by other users.

For beginners who want a social-investing framework without paying for a financial advisor, this is a genuine differentiator. For self-directed advanced traders, it is less compelling. eToro USA’s social layer is one of its strongest features, but it does not turn the platform into a professional-grade analytics ecosystem.

Research

Rating: 3.5

Research is lighter than the eToro brand’s visibility might suggest. The strongest parts of the U.S. research environment are:

  • Instrument pages
  • Market-hours tools
  • Rarnings calendar coverage
  • Broker-produced News and Analysis content
  • Social feed commentary

In practice, this is enough to support a retail investor who wants quick context, basic catalyst awareness and visibility into what other users are watching. What you do not get is a heavyweight research desk with institutional-style screening, dense macro coverage, or a deep analyst toolkit.

That means the research setup suits beginners and casual investors better than data-heavy active traders.

Education

Rating: 3.0

Education is one of the stronger parts of eToro USA’s overall package. The eToro Academy covers beginner investing, ETFs, options, crypto, earnings season and product explainers in a format that is easy to digest.

Having reviewed the scope and actually lots of the material, it works best as a learning library for newer investors who want short-form, practical explainers rather than a formal trading curriculum. It is accessible, broad and useful, but it is not the kind of academy that takes a trader from zero to professional-level market competence.

That makes it well suited to first-time investors and less suited to advanced traders looking for deep strategy development or professional market education.

Customer Support

Rating: 3.0

Support is available through the help center, ticket system, chatbot and live chat. We’ve used it multiple times – the automated chatbot is a bit and hit miss if you need specific products and regulatory rules, but you do heard back instantly and can reach a human agent for further assistance.

The best service window we found was live chat from 8 AM to 4 PM EST, Monday to Friday, plus U.S. phone details listed in the disclosures framework at 1-888-271-8365.

The support topics that matter most here are not generic “how do I buy a stock?” questions. The real-value issues in eToro USA’s support model are:

  • Verification holds and KYC document requests
  • Bank-linking and deposit-method mismatches
  • Withdrawal restrictions and account reviews
  • State-based crypto availability
  • CopyTrader availability and feature limitations
  • Options-account approval and permissions

That is the profile of a support operation serving mainstream retail investors in a regulated U.S. environment. It is adequate for that audience, but it is not premium white-glove support for professional traders.

Community Sentiment

The public reputation is mixed-positive overall, and the patterns are specific enough to be useful. We analyzed and aggregated sentiment from the Apple App Store, Google Play, Trustpilot, Reviews.io and other public review/forum sources, covering well over 180,000 ratings and reviews in total.

The theme mix is fairly consistent. The most common positives are ease of use, accessibility for beginners, stock access, the social-investing concept and the appeal of copy trading. The recurring negatives are verification delays, slower-than-ideal support experiences, confusion about crypto fees, and frustration when account restrictions or eligibility rules block expected features.

Overall, the broader public sentiment looks credible based on our hands-on testing experience and broadly consistent with what eToro USA is actually built for: mainstream retail investors who value simplicity and social features more than advanced trading infrastructure.

How We Tested eToro USA

We assessed eToro USA by reviewing its U.S. legal entities, FINRA registration, SIPC membership status, state crypto disclosures, fee schedules, deposit and withdrawal rules, options pricing, asset availability, CopyTrader rollout, app-store sentiment, support channels, educational library and public news releases.

We also compared the U.S. offering against what many traders mistakenly assume eToro provides globally, because that distinction matters hugely in this case. For U.S. visitors, the real judgment call is not just whether eToro is a known brand. It is whether its actual U.S. product set matches the trader’s needs.

We also took a data-driven review approach, checking regulatory records, current U.S. pricing, state-level crypto restrictions, help-center support details, public app feedback and recent corporate announcements to build a U.S.-specific assessment rather than relying on global eToro materials.

Crucially, we actually used eToro USA – we opened an account, placed trades on U.S. stocks, sent test queries to the support team, configured our own watchlists and alerts, plus read, watched and listened to its Academy resources.

We blended hours of extensive use of its platform, app and tools with wider research and investigation.

Who Should (And Shouldn’t) Use eToro USA?

If you are a beginner or intermediate U.S. investor who wants commission-free stocks, ETFs, straightforward listed options, crypto access where available, and a differentiated copy-trading layer, eToro USA is a credible option. The strongest parts of the package are the clean app experience, broad retail accessibility, social-investing framework, virtual portfolio and public-company transparency.

If you are a U.S. forex trader, futures trader, serious options trader, low-fee crypto trader or professional-style active trader, eToro USA is a weaker fit. The trust case is good on the securities side, but the platform is still built for mainstream retail investing rather than advanced execution, advanced charting or institutional-style market access. Traders wanting deeper tools, lower crypto costs, or more sophisticated order control will likely find better alternatives elsewhere.
