Pros

  • Years later, AvaTrade is still among the few brokers with a custom risk management tool, AvaProtect, which insures losses up to $1M for a fee and is simple to use on the platform.
  • AvaTrade enhances its products with AvaFutures, offering an alternative to trade over 35 markets with low trading margins.
  • AvaTrade's support team did well in tests, responding within 3 minutes and providing local support in major regions like the UK, Europe, and the Middle East.
  • The WebTrader performed well in our tests, featuring an easy-to-use interface for beginners and strong charting tools, including 6 chart layouts and over 60 technical indicators.

Cons

  • AvaTrade’s WebTrader has improved, but it needs more customization as widgets like market watch and watchlists can't be hidden, moved, or resized.
  • The AvaSocial app is satisfactory but could be better. Its design, usability, and navigation between strategy providers and account management need improvement to compete with top platforms like eToro.
  • Signing up is easy, but AvaTrade doesn't offer an ECN account like Pepperstone or IC Markets, which provides raw spreads and fast execution that many traders want.
  • While the deposit process is smooth, AvaTrade doesn't support crypto payments, unlike TopFX, which caters to crypto-focused traders.

Regulation & Trust

Rating: 4.8

AvaTrade is one of the most regulated brokers in the world. It has licenses from seven regulators, including the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) and the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).

With over 15 years in the industry, it has built a solid reputation—and I’ve seen firsthand why it’s won awards.

What stands out is how transparent the broker is about trading conditions and costs. No hidden surprises make it easier for me to plan and manage my trades effectively.

Accounts & Banking

Rating: 4.3

Live Accounts

AvaTrade is simple to use and beginner-friendly. Since trading is commission-free with a $100 minimum deposit, it feels super accessible—especially if you’re starting your trading journey.

That said, it lacks the variety of account types of other platforms, which might be a downside for more advanced or specialized trading strategies.

If you build up some equity, you’ll qualify for the premium membership, with priority support and a few exclusive perks that make a difference. There’s also a swap-free account for Muslim traders and a professional account with high leverage for those who qualify.

Opening an account took me less than five minutes. Depositing and withdrawing money is just as straightforward. AvaTrade doesn’t charge fees, which is a huge plus because I rarely move funds around.

The cashier portal is intuitive—I just hit ‘Deposit,’ pick my payment method, select which account I want to fund, enter the amount, and follow the steps to complete the deposit.

Withdrawals are quick, too. Card withdrawals show up instantly for me, and e-wallets usually process within 24 hours. Bank transfers take longer, but the minimum withdrawal is just $1 if I use an e-wallet.

The broker sometimes runs bonuses, but I’ve noticed it doesn’t offer rebates for high-volume trading. Still, it prioritizes safety and fair trading conditions over flashy promotions, which matters more to me in the long run.

Demo Accounts

AvaTrade’s demo account is one of its best features, especially when I want to test new strategies without pressure.

It gives me $100,000 in virtual funds to work with, and there’s no time limit, so I can take my time and get comfortable.

I can also switch between different platforms, which helps me determine what best suits my style.

Compared to other brokers I’ve tried, which limit demo access to a couple of weeks, this one seems more flexible and beginner-friendly.

Assets & Markets

Rating: 4.5

AvaTrade offers a range of trading options. You can access over 1,250 instruments across asset classes—stocks, forex, commodities, and more.

Sure, it’s not as massive as what CMC Markets offers, but it’s more than enough for me and most retail traders. I especially appreciate the variety in indices and ETFs—it helps me maintain a well-balanced portfolio without jumping across multiple platforms.

Most of what I trade is through CFDs, but there are also options for spread betting and even trading options in certain areas.

Over 60 ETFs are available with 1:5 leverage—my favorites include the SPDR Gold Trust and Vanguard Real Estate ETF. Regarding stocks, I’ve traded big names like Amazon, GE, Netflix, and JP Morgan Chase—more than 650 companies are available.

In the forex space, I usually focus on major pairs like EUR/USD and GBP/USD, but there are over 50 currency pairs to choose from. I also like exploring the 45+ indices, especially themed baskets like Green Energy.

There are also over 18 commodities, including gold, silver, and oil. If I want to switch things up, I can trade nine major cryptocurrencies, like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Occasionally, I dip into bonds with assets like the Euro-Bund or Japanese Government Bonds.

In 2024, AvaTrade rolled out AvaFutures, which I’ve been exploring. It lets me trade futures on 35 different markets, including oil and crypto, and it’s all available on MetaTrader 5 (MT5).

Leverage is flexible depending on where I’m trading from and whether I’m classified as retail or professional. As a retail trader in the EU, I can use up to 1:30, but pros can go up to 1:400. It’s in line with the rest of the industry, so I never feel limited.

One thing I always make sure to do is manage my risk. I rely on AvaProtect and stop-loss orders regularly—they give me peace of mind when markets get choppy.

Fees & Costs

Rating: 3.8

AvaTrade offers a clear fee structure: spread-only pricing. The dealing desk model means no commissions, but spreads are wider than non-dealing desk brokers.

Trading Fees

AvaTrade’s fees are competitive, though not the cheapest. Major forex pairs like EUR/USD have 0.9 pips spreads, USD/JPY at 1 pip. Stocks like Apple and Microsoft are offered at 0.13%. Futures products are competitively priced, with Micro contracts at 0.75 per trade and E-Mini and Standard at 1.75. There are no deposit or account fees, and you get free access to level 2 market data.

Non-Trading Fees

Non-trading fees are slightly higher. A $50 inactivity fee occurs after three months of no activity, plus an extra $100 after 12 months. This is more than Plus500’s $10 or FxPro’s $15 monthly charges. Swap fees for overnight positions apply, but Islamic accounts are exempt.

  • Crypto Spread: BTC <1%, ETH 2%

Platforms & Tools

Rating: 4.3

AvaTrade is renowned for its high-quality trading platforms suitable for all trader levels. From beginners to experts, AvaTrade offers diverse options including MetaTrader 4 (MT4), MetaTrader 5 (MT5), WebTrader, AvaTradeGO, and AvaOptions. However, it falls short by not offering a wider range of third-party platforms.

For beginners, AvaTrade’s WebTrader provides an intuitive interface with easy navigation and chart customization. Yet, its lack of flexibility in workspace customization can be frustrating. Despite this, it boasts sophisticated tools, multiple chart layouts, and the AvaProtect tool for significant risk management.

More advanced traders may prefer MT4 and MT5 due to their robust features. MT4 and MT5 offer extensive chart views, multiple indicators, and automation capabilities, ideal for those utilizing Expert Advisors (EAs). MT5 further enhances trading with faster processing and additional tools like multi-thread strategy testing.

AvaTradeGO, the mobile app, is convenient for on-the-go trading with dynamic charting, sentiment data, and various indicators. It is especially useful for those accustomed to WebTrader.

AvaTrade shines with its additional tools like AvaSocial and DupliTrade for copy trading. AvaSocial’s interactive platform allows traders to mimic successful strategies but could improve in user interface. DupliTrade provides real-time strategy following but requires a $2000 minimum deposit, which may deter beginners.

In partnership with Trading Central, AvaTrade offers formidable market insights, technical analysis, and a daily strategy newsletter, enhancing informed trading decisions. The Guardian Angel tool on MT4 provides invaluable risk management data, helping improve trading performance.

Research

Rating: 4.3

AvaTrade shines with its outstanding research tools. On the web platform or app, the Discovery tab is a goldmine of resources like market signals, a news feed, and an economic calendar.

Notable features include the Analyst Views tool, offering actionable forex trade ideas, and the Market Buzz tool, gathering sentiment data from top news sources.

Pro tip: Use the ‘Bubbles’ view in Market Buzz for a visual market sentiment display. Refine searches with Countries, Sectors, and Bubble Size filters.

Education

Rating: 4.5

AvaTrade excels with its educational center, offering videos, eBooks, tutorials, glossaries, and more. The entire site provides valuable information for online traders. Trading platform tutorials with step-by-step videos and articles are notable. Advanced strategy guides further enhance learning.

Customer Support

Rating: 4.3

AvaTrade excels in customer support. Their multilingual team is available 24/5 via live chat, email, WhatsApp, and local phone numbers. I’ve tested their service, and response times were fast—within 3 minutes via live chat. The help center provides a broad range of FAQs and useful articles. AvaTrade also maintains an active presence on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
