Why Trade With Eightcap?

Eightcap provides all necessary resources for traders, including an expanding array of charting platforms, educational programs in Labs, and the integration of AI-powered tools. With the addition of more than 120 cryptocurrency Contracts for Difference (CFDs), it has established itself as a preferred option for crypto trading. It has received our 'Best Crypto Broker' award consecutively for two years.
Christian Harris
Review Author

Pros

  • Eightcap offers cost-effective trading with tight spreads starting at 0 pips and low commission fees. This flexible setup supports various strategies, such as trading and scalping.
  • Eightcap excels by offering robust trading tools and resources, such as MT4, MT5, and the 100-million-member TradingView social trading network.
  • In 2026, Eightcap introduced TradeLocker in specific regions, becoming the top regulated TradeLocker broker. It maintains Eightcap's fast execution and low fees for active traders using the charting software.

Cons

  • While Eightcap's Labs offers a valuable collection of educational guides and e-books, it still falls behind IG's extensive resources for traders, including the IG Academy app and 18 different course categories.
  • Eightcap does not provide popular tools like Autochartist or Trading Central. These tools are known for their advanced charting analytics, live news, and market insights for traders.
  • Eightcap should enhance its suite of 800+ instruments to compete with category leaders like Blackbull Markets, which offers 26,000+ assets. Its commodities selection requires improvement.

Why Trade With Trade Nation?

Trade Nation is suitable for discretionary traders interested in speculating on major indices like the US 500 or liquid FX pairs, with the predictability of fixed spreads. Our tests showed the fixed-spread TN Trader platform is beneficial for trading during scheduled economic releases due to its reliable charting and capped spreads.
James Barra
Review Author

Pros

  • During normal market conditions, the TN Trader account maintained fixed spreads with quick order fills on major forex pairs, although the entry level slightly changed as prices moved between click and fill.
  • The broker expanded into Europe with regulated online trading services after getting approval from Portugal's CVMV, enhancing safety protections for European users.
  • The demo includes a $5,000 practice account, and you can request a personal platform walkthrough by phone—a rare level of support.

Cons

  • Offshore SCB and FSA entities offer retail clients leverage up to 1:200 and 1:500, compared to 1:30 in the UK, Europe, and Australia. This means FSA clients can have 16 times the exposure of UK retail clients on the same trade, but with less oversight and no compensation scheme.
  • There is no raw or ECN pricing, which many traders prefer. Regardless of your deposit or trading volume, you will use the same fixed (or variable on MT4) pricing as beginners, making it unsuitable for scalpers.
  • Withdrawals may take up to five business days. This is average for the industry but slower than the 1-3 days that some brokers now offer to reduce complaints from retail investors.

Why Trade With FBS?

FBS is a great option for traders of all levels and budgets, offering a $5 minimum deposit and a comprehensive academy for new traders, along with access to MT4 and MT5.
Christian Harris
Review Author

Pros

  • FBS provides quick execution speeds starting at just 10 milliseconds, making it a top choice for active traders, such as scalpers, who require fast order handling.
  • The trading company has gained over 90 honors and accumulated over 27 million customers, thus, it is among the biggest and oldest brokers worldwide.
  • The FBI Assistant provides traders with AI-driven insights to evaluate charts and patterns, offering potential trade ideas that can be executed with one click.

Cons

  • The FBS app is excellent for beginner traders and MT4/MT5 is suitable for advanced ones. However, the lack of cTrader and TradingView, available on alternatives like Pepperstone, might be a drawback for traders familiar with these platforms.
  • There are only four base currencies available: EUR, USD, AUD, and JPY (dependent on region). This is not ideal for reducing currency conversion fees for many international traders, especially since the broker's users are from over 150 countries.
  • FBS now offers over 70 currency pairs for trading but still falls behind leaders like BlackBull Markets because of its limited options in commodities and indices.

Why Trade With FXCC?

FXCC is an excellent choice for traders, offering over 70 currency pairs, ultra-tight spreads from 0.0 pips during testing, and a free VPS for eligible traders.
James Barra
Review Author

Pros

  • FXCC has expanded its services by including MT5 in its platforms, adding hundreds of stocks and more cryptocurrencies, as well as introducing copy trading and more margin trading options.
  • FXCC's ECN XL account is designed for active traders, offering spreads from 0.0 without commission and meeting our execution speed standards.
  • FXCC is a strong choice for algo traders due to its free VPS for eligible traders and the option to build or buy EAs on MetaTrader.

Cons

  • Despite improvements to the economic calendar, FXCC provides limited market research, offering only basic daily technical analysis and aggregated news. It lacks tools such as Autochartist and social sentiment data.
  • FXCC imposes high withdrawal fees, such as $45 for bank transfers and 2% for cryptocurrency transfers, which can reduce the earnings of traders who frequently withdraw funds.
  • FXCC has expanded to include US, European, and Asian stocks, but offers limited metals and energy options, and no soft commodities.

Why Trade With XTB?

XTB is an excellent option for new traders due to its xStation platform, low trading costs, no minimum deposit, and outstanding educational tools, many of which are integrated into the platform.
Christian Harris
Review Author

Pros

  • Signing up for an XTB account is simple and entirely digital, taking only a short while. This enables a seamless transition into trading for new traders.
  • In 2026, XTB expanded its offerings with options trading in Spain and Germany, spot cryptocurrencies in specific regions, and Investment Plans 2.0. These plans include more pre-built options for sectors like Defense, a user-friendly interface, and increased flexibility to mix individual stocks and ETFs.
  • Great customer support 24/5, including a live chat service. During tests, responses were typically provided in less than two minutes.

Cons

  • XTB does not provide a raw spread account. This is often given by competitors such as Pepperstone. This can be of disadvantage to traders searching for the narrowest spreads.
  • XTB's research tools are decent but could be improved by expanding beyond their own features to include top external tools like Autochartist, Trading Central, and TipRanks.
  • The demo account ends in four weeks. This is a limit for traders wanting to fully explore the xStation platform and try out strategies before using actual money.

Methodology For Selecting The Top Brokers In Spain

We followed three steps:

  1. Legally Allowed To Operate in Spain: Brokers had to either be directly regulated by Spain’s National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) or be allowed to accept residents via the EU’s passporting regime, which we unpack further below. This was to make sure we only show brokers committed to following Spain and the wider EU’s market conduct and investor safeguards.
  2. Accepting of Spanish Residents: We signed up for accounts using a local IP address in Madrid or Barcelona, while also checking that ‘Spain’ was not listed among brokers’ lists of restricted countries. We also looked at whether brokers provide their websites, client interfaces, and support in Spanish – quite a few do. I’m good at establishing this as I hold a Spanish passport myself.
  3. Hands-On Testing: Our team, which includes veteran brokerage experts and experienced traders, tested and scored each broker in eight key categories, gathering close to 300 data points per firm. These data points and our team’s direct user experience with these brokers formed their overall ratings, by which providers were ultimately ranked by.

How To Choose The Right Broker As A Trader In Spain

Every trader has different requirements based on their trading strategy, starting capital, and preferred tools and user experience. Still, considering several factors can help you weigh providers:

Safety

Only deposit Euros with a broker you trust. Our toplist only contains brokers that have passed our safety checks, but you can also run your own.

Ideally, you’d choose a broker regulated by the CNMV (you can search for a broker yourself using the CNMV’s Companies Search and check for disciplinary penalties – I’ve used it dozens of times it’s intuitive), however there aren’t many online brokers directly authorized by the CNMV – we know as we’re verifying brokers’ regulatory credentials every week.

Instead, through the EU’s passporting rules, laid down by the European Securities Markets Authority (ESMA), brokerages can operate across the EEA, including Spain, provided that they have authorization from one of the region’s national regulators. In practice, this means a broker authorized by neighboring France’s AMF, for example, can accept Spanish traders.

And crucially, Spaniards can then expect the same safeguards afforded to retail traders by a CMVM-regulated broker, notably segregated client money accounts to keep your funds separate from the company’s in the event of broker insolvency, negative balance protection so you can’t lose more than your balance, and leverage capped at 1:30 on major forex pairs, helping to limit losses should trades go against you.

If you want the peace of mind of a broker with a strong physical presence in Spain – CMC Markets, IG and XTB have Spanish branches and offices that operate under EEA authorization issued in their respective home states.

Access To Spanish, European and Global Markets

Spanish residents may understandably want to trade Spanish-listed stocks or wider European markets. The good news is we checked our broker database and over 60% offer trading on Spanish-listed equities, Spanish indices, notably the IBEX index, and wider European stock exchanges and indices like the Euronext.

Forex also provides opportunities for Spanish traders, as over 95% of the trading platforms in our database offer trading on multiple currency pairs containing the Euro, from EUR/USD and EUR/GBP to less liquid pairs like EUR/CHF and EUR/SEK at some brokers.

Elsewhere, Spanish residents can expect access to global markets like precious metals, soft commodities, cryptos, bonds, plus US and other global stocks, though the exact offering will depend on the specific broker. It’s always worth sense checking the markets you want to trade are available before depositing funds – most brokers publish at least some of their available assets on their websites.

Note CFDs are permitted in Spain, but under a 2023 CNMV Resolution, brokers cannot advertise CFDs, including through celebrity endorsements, influencers, or demo accounts. This applies to brokers operating in Spain through cross-border permissions. Essentially, Spanish residents must choose to trade CFDs of their own account.

Trading Fees

Trading costs are a crucial consideration for most retail investors, especially active traders. The key costs to consider are spreads (the difference between the buy and sell price of an asset) and any commission (a fixed charge per trade, often around $6-7 per round lot turn in forex).

In our broker directory, around 75% of providers offer a raw spread account with spreads from zero plus a commission (popular with active traders), while around 25% offer spread-only accounts (popular with casual traders wanting one price). But over 50% offer a choice of both pricing setups, so you have plenty of choices.

Tip: Liquid Euro FX pairs like EUR/USD tend to have the tightest spreads, while less widely traded pairs like EUR/SEK tend to have wider spreads, eating into potential profit margins.

EUR Trading Account

Picking a broker with a EUR trading account is sensible for most Spanish traders and is also offered by over 90% of brokers we’ve tested. This means deposits, account balances, and withdrawals will be shown in Euros, making the trading experience clean while potentially cutting conversion fees compared to if you deposited in US Dollars, which would then get converted to Euros.

Keep in mind that if you trade assets denominated in another currency, such as US stocks, you could still pay a conversion charge if your account is based in EUR.

Trading Tools

If you’re a short-term trader, you may want a powerful charting platform. If you’re a longer-term stock trader, you may want a platform with stock screeners, analyst ratings, and dividend calendars.

Most brokers run third-party platforms, usually one or some of MT4, MT5, cTrader, and TradingView, with the latter becoming more popular in recent years owing to a slicker user interface and a massive charting package and active community. I’ve spent thousands of hours using these platforms, and TradingView is my personal favorite.

Some firms also have their own proprietary platforms and trading apps. These can be reliable and feature-rich or glitchy and offering nothing beyond established third-party names.

As an example, below you can see a proprietary platform that I do rate – XTB’s. You can see where in my live XTB account I made a Spanish Watchlist with various assets I can track and get price alerts for – it includes Spanish stocks, an ETF that tracks the IBEX, plus a Spanish government bond.

FAQ

Who Regulates Trading Brokers In Spain?

Spain’s National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) regulates trading brokers. The CNMV is a Category A body in BrokerListings.com’s regulator classification, providing excellent oversight of authorized trading platforms and strong safeguards for retail investors.

However, due to Spain’s position in the European Union, brokerages authorized by another member state can also solicit Spanish traders and are required to provide the same safeguards, from segregated accounts to leverage limits and bans on products like binary options.

Do I Get Investor Compensation If I’m A Spanish Resident And My Broker Goes Bankrupt?

Spain may pay up to €100,000 per retail trader per brokerage if it cannot return financial assets or cash, in line with FOGAIN. However, this Investor Compensation Scheme (ICS) may only be in place if you use a broker regulated in Spain. If you trade through a broker in another EU member state, you may not be covered to this amount.

Many retail traders in Spain do not realise this – there are limits to the EU passporting regime, with EU law only requiring €20,000 minimum, and some member states like Spain choosing to provide more to eligible clients.

How Does Choosing A Local Vs Foreign Broker From Spain Affect My Taxes?

If you use Spanish brokers and those with local branches, such as XTB, they act as tax agents (retenedors). They will automatically report trades to Hacienda (AEAT), including pre-filling annual tax drafts. If you opt for a foreign broker, they do not automatically report to AEAT. You’ll need to manually convert trade details to Euros, calulate any FIFO capital gains and manage the reporting yourself.

The key tax forms you need to know are Modelo 720, which is required for foreign stocks, ETFs or cash in excess of €50,000, and is due by 31 March. The other is Modelo 721, which concerns foreign-held crypto assets that excees €50,000, also due by 31 March.
