Is Vantage Legal In India?
Vantage is not legally authorized to provide online trading to residents in India. The country’s central bank has Vantage Markets, operating at ‘https://www.vantagemarkets.com’, on its Alert List. Vantage still accepts Indian residents, but caution is required.

Is Vantage Regulated In India?
No, Vantage is not authorized by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) or the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). I verified this by searching for ‘Vantage’ on SEBI’s database of Recognized Intermediaries.
Whilst similarly spelt entities came up, notably ‘VANTAGE GLOBAL GENERAL TRADING L.L.C’, ‘VANTAGE SECURITIES PRIVATE LIMITED’, ‘Vantage Oak Fund’, ‘VANTAGEPOINT INVESTMENT ADVISERS, LLC’, and ‘VANTAGETRUST III MASTER COLLECTIVE INVESTMENT FUNDS TRUST’, these are not related to Vantage Markets, the online forex and CFD broker.
Vantage also features on the RBI’s Alert List in row 40, as you can see below. This list contains entities that, as the regulatory alert states, are “neither authorised to deal in forex under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA) nor authorised to operate electronic trading platform (ETP) for forex transactions”.

RBI Alert List
Vantage is not alone on this list. In fact, it contains over 90 online brokers operating globally, many of which, like Vantage, are authorized by trusted regulators in other countries, including eToro and Pepperstone.
So it’s worth being clear that being on this list does not make Vantage a scam broker. However, it’s also clear that Vantage is not authorized by India’s financial regulators.
Can I Open A Vantage Trading Account From India?
Yes, Vantage still accepts residents from India. I confirmed this by signing up for a trading account from a Mumbai address, as you can see below. I was able to select India from the ‘Country’ drop-down menu.

It’s clear Vantage builds its services to cater to Indian residents because when my account was created, I could select the language icon in the top right-hand corner and change the website/client portal language to languages spoken in the country, notably Hindi (हिंदी) and Bengali (বাংলা). It also offers deposits via India UPI and trading on one currency pair containing the Indian rupee (INR) – USD/INR.
Still, that doesn’t necessarily make Vantage Markets the ideal fit for Indian traders in all areas. It doesn’t offer a trading account based in INR, which would make transactions smoother and reduce conversion fees, nor does it provide access to the National Stock Exchange (NSE) or Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
But the biggest consideration is that if you trade with Vantage Markets from India, you may be falling foul of local rules. Under the 1999 Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), residents should only trade permitted products via SEBI-registered brokerages or recognized intermediaries, notably the NSE or BSE.
Practically, you may encounter problems:
- It’s possible an Indian bank blocks your transfer to an overseas Vantage account.
- If Vantage were to refuse a withdrawal (not a problem it’s widely accused of), it’s unlikely an Indian regulator or local law enforcement will step in to recover your funds.
- Sending rupees abroad to trade forex and CFDs could clash with FEMA and result in action being taken against you, though there aren’t widely reported cases of this.
You can use Vantage Markets despite these risks or stick to a SEBI-regulated brokerage like Interactive Brokers.
