What Is The Minimum Deposit At XM?

XM enforces a universal $5 minimum deposit across its Micro, Standard, and Ultra Low account options. Among brokers that require a minimum deposit, XM’s $5 threshold is among the lowest in our broker directory, with only those requiring $1 or having no minimum offering a lower barrier to entry.

The $5 minimum is low, making live market access straightforward regardless of your geographical home base. However, there is an exception for professional execution setups: traders looking to utilize the raw-spread XM Zero Account must clear a higher entry threshold of $100. The Shares account, available in some regions, also requires a significant $10,000 minimum.

While a $5 or $100 payment normally clears the automated funding desk, practical operational requirements dictate a higher minimum starting amount. Because underlying market margins and leverage ratios require real equity buffers to withstand natural price fluctuations, trading live instruments with just a single $5 bill will leave your XM account highly susceptible to immediate margin stop-outs. We generally recommend starting with an execution runway of $100 to $200 to protect open-market exposure.

Note the $5 minimum deposit is enough to unlock XM’s deposit bonus on standard accounts, available in select regions, though choosing an Ultra Low account or withdrawing funds will forfeit the bonus credit. Importantly, we don’t recommend choosing a broker based on their bonus deals.

Minimum Deposit By Payment Method & Speed

While XM maintains small internal entry standards, third-party global payment pipelines and regional corridors enforce their own transit conditions:

Regional Geofencing: What Methods Are Actually Available?

Available deposit paths update dynamically inside your secure back-office portal to map to your local regulatory region:

  • UK and European Union Accounts: Due to strict local ESMA regulations, alternative mobile channels and certain fringe digital wallets are restricted. XM accounts rely heavily on traditional credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, and SEPA-standardized banking networks.
  • Asia-Pacific & Australian Traders: Gain immediate access to direct local banking nodes alongside major international card networks, enabling swift funding without incurring international currency processing fees.
  • African & Emerging Market Sign-ups: Can seamlessly access highly localized mobile payment networks (such as M-Pesa or Airtel Money) or localized e-wallets, bypassing international wire delays completely.

The “Anti-Money Laundering” Closed-Loop Trapping Rule

The primary operational hurdle to keep in mind revolves around withdrawal processing rather than your initial deposit. XM adheres to a strict “closed-loop” financial rule to comply with global Anti-Money Laundering (AML) standards.

If you fund an account with $200 via a specific Mastercard and generate $150 in trading profits, your total account equity will stand at $350. When pulling funds out:

You must execute an initial withdrawal of $200 back to that matching Mastercard profile as a direct refund.

The extra $150 in accumulated trading profits can then be routed out via a secondary verified method, such as a direct bank transfer under your name.

Crucial Hands-On Catch: Any payment source utilized must match the exact legal name on your XM trading profile. Attempting to deploy third-party financial lines can spark a structural compliance flag, locking down transaction privileges until manual identity clearances are verified.

Step-By-Step: How to Fund Your XM Account

  1. Pass Verification First: Complete your primary identity verification checks before executing external transfers. You will need to upload clear photographs of a government-issued ID card or passport, along with a matching proof of address (utility bill or bank statement) dated within the last 3 months.
  2. Access the Cashier Area: Log in to your secure XM back-office portal via your desktop browser, or open the mobile XM app, then hit the main menu and select ‘Deposit’.
  3. Align Your Base Currency: Pick a deposit path that matches your trading account base currency (10+ including USD, EUR, GBP, JPY) to eliminate hidden currency conversion charges.
  4. Authorize Security Steps: Ensure your 3D Secure verification pathways or mobile banking card notifications are active to pass the automated payment verification protocols instantly.
