Is IG Regulated In India?
No, the IG Group is not regulated in India, including through any of its subsidiaries. We confirmed this by searching for ‘IG’ on SEBI’s list of Recognised Intermediaries. While it returned many results, including some that contained IG, such as ‘IG JPMORGAN EMERGING MARKETS FUND’, these relate to different providers and products.
An even clearer sign that IG isn’t authorized to serve retail investors in India is that it features on the RBI’s Alert List, as you can see below. Under the 1999 Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), residents are not permitted to use the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) to transfer money overseas to trade forex or contracts for difference (CFDs) with margin.

IG Markets – RBI Alert List
For safety, residents should prioritize brokers with a local entity licensed in India, such as Interactive Brokers, that are allowed to offer access to global financial markets.
Does IG Broker Accept Indian Residents?
No, IG does not allow clients from India to open an online trading account. We confirmed this in two ways. Firstly, we asked the support team on live chat, which as you can see below, said “we’re not able to accept applications from residents of India at the moment”.

IG live chat
However, because we noticed the live chat seemed to be powered by AI with instant responses, we wanted to be sure. So from a Mumbai IP address, we tried to sign up for an IG account. But as you can see below, we were unable to because India is not in the drop-down under ‘Country of Residence’.

IG is also a poor fit for Indian residents anyway. It does not offer an INR-based trading account, nor does it provide trading on equities listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) or the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
