Quick Verdict
Neither eToro nor Plus500 accepts traders from USA. Instead, we recommend Interactive Brokers, a top-rated alternative that impressed our team during testing and accepts traders from your location.
eToro and Plus500 are easy-to-use, well-regulated brokers with free demo accounts, strong mobile apps, and broad CFD trading. eToro is the more complete choice for investing, crypto, copy trading, research, and learning. Plus500 is more focused on simple CFD trading with lower forex costs.
Plus500 has tighter typical EUR/USD pricing at 0.6 pips, versus 1.0 pip at eToro. It also provides round-the-clock support, while eToro’s support is limited to 24/5 and can be slower.
eToro offers over 6,000 instruments, including 4,100+ shares, 432 ETFs, and 100+ cryptocurrencies. Plus500 stands out for a clean CFD platform, 60 forex pairs, and a London Stock Exchange listing, but it lacks copy trading and direct share investing.

Regulation & Trust
eToro and Plus500 are fairly evenly matched for trust. Both hold licences from major regulators, including the FCA, ASIC, and CySEC, and both keep client money in segregated accounts. Each broker also has a long public track record, though both have faced regulatory action and legal disputes that traders should consider.
From our direct broker checks, Plus500’s London Stock Exchange listing under LON: PLUS, plus licences from the FCA, DFSA, MAS, ASIC, and CySEC, adds useful transparency. eToro has strong FCA, ASIC, and CySEC oversight, encryption, and segregated funds, but users should take care to avoid clone websites claiming to be either broker.
Accounts & Banking
eToro and Plus500 are fairly evenly matched for accounts and banking, but they suit different users. eToro can be cheaper to open, with first deposits starting from $50 in some countries, while Plus500 generally requires $100. Both offer a single main retail account, free deposits, several card, bank, and e-wallet options, and free practice accounts.
In our live funding checks, eToro accepted cards, bank transfers, PayPal, Skrill, and Neteller, while Plus500 supported cards, wire transfers, PayPal, and Skrill. eToro’s demo comes with $100,000 in virtual funds; Plus500’s demo has no time limit and lets users reset the balance. The main drawback at eToro was a $5 withdrawal fee and $30 minimum withdrawal, while Plus500 has no withdrawal limit and withdrawals as fast as 24 hours for some e-wallet withdrawals.
We also found useful account extras on both sides. eToro offers its Money app and the Popular Investor programme, while Plus500 has Islamic accounts and professional accounts for eligible traders. Plus500 professional clients can receive higher leverage, cash rebates, and faster execution, but they lose some retail protections.
Assets & Markets
eToro is the better choice for market range. Its selection of more than 6,000 instruments is far broader than a CFD-first offering. It combines stocks, ETFs, crypto, forex, indices, commodities, and CFDs in one account.
During our market browsing tests, eToro offered 4,100+ global shares, 432 ETFs, 55 forex pairs, 21 indices, 32 commodities, and 100+ cryptocurrencies, subject to location. Fractional shares and trading from as little as $10 make its share offering more flexible. It also provides extended-hours dealing in selected US shares, with 45 stocks available in the tested account.
Plus500 is still strong for CFD traders. It offers shares, forex, indices, commodities, ETFs, crypto CFDs in many regions, and 60 currency pairs. However, its products are mainly built around leveraged CFDs, and CFD trading is unavailable to US clients.
Fees & Costs
Plus500 is cheaper for frequent forex trading. It uses commission-free pricing and showed a typical EUR/USD spread of 0.6 pips, compared with around 1.0 pip at eToro. Both charge overnight financing on leveraged positions, so holding CFDs for many days can raise total costs.
When we compared a 1-lot EUR/USD trade, where one pip is about $10, eToro’s 1.0-pip spread cost was about $10 total, with no stated forex commission. Plus500’s 0.6-pip spread cost was about $6 total, also with no commission. This makes Plus500 around $4 cheaper per standard lot on this example before overnight charges, conversion fees, or market movement.
Non-trading costs create a different trade-off. Plus500 has no deposit or withdrawal charges, but applies a $10 inactivity fee after three months without logging in and currency conversion charges of up to 0.7%. eToro charges a $5 withdrawal fee and a $10 monthly inactivity charge after 12 months without logging in, which is more forgiving for long-term holders.
Platforms & Tools
Plus500 provides the stronger overall platform package. It has 100+ technical indicators, alerts by email and SMS, and a multi-chart layout that can display up to nine charts. Plus500 is very clean and quick to learn. Still, our platform use showed several gaps: no MT4, MT5, cTrader, copy trading, trading journal, or tax tools. Guaranteed stops are available on some markets, but they use wider spreads and cannot be added after a trade is open.
eToro’s web and mobile platforms are simple, but add social investing, CopyTrader, integrated news, TradingView-powered charts, and eToro Edge for more active users.
In our practical charting tests, eToro offered nine chart types and 100+ indicators, including RSI and Bollinger Bands. Its CopyTrader tool lets users filter investors by risk and markets, then set their own stop-loss and take-profit controls. A key limitation was that ProCharts is restricted to higher-tier clients, and eToro does not support MT4, MT5, or automated trading systems.
Major platform developments at eToro include its 2026 technology-led brand revamp, the launch of eToro Edge in July 2026, and the July 2026 mobile addition of Tori AI agent investing. The eToro Money app also expands fund and crypto management beyond the main trading screen.
Research
eToro delivers better research for most traders. It combines analyst material, weekly market videos, articles, earnings information, an economic calendar, market news, podcasts, and trader sentiment. Plus500 covers the basics but requires more outside research for detailed company or market work.
In our research workflow tests, eToro’s analyst price targets, stock reports, and Digest & Invest podcast gave more useful starting points than Plus500’s short market updates. eToro also uses sentiment from leading traders rather than every account on the platform. The weaker point was that some content sits outside the main workflow, while Finchat Pro access is limited to certain Club members and stock reports require a funded account.
Plus500’s +Insights feature is its best research tool. It shows buyer and seller percentages and performance patterns across time frames, which can help with short-term sentiment. Still, our direct use found limited in-house analysis and no deep third-party research suite such as Trading Central or Autochartist.
Education
eToro offers the more complete learning experience. Its Learning Academy, articles, videos, webinars, blogs, and YouTube content cover more topics and suit beginners through to developing investors. Plus500 provides clear eBooks, tutorials, videos, and trading articles, but the range is less detailed.
During our education walkthroughs, eToro’s lessons were easier to follow alongside its demo account and CopyTrader tools. The main usability issue was that educational posts, research, and promotional content can blend together, making it harder to find a specific lesson. Its wide product range also means new users should learn the risks of CFDs and crypto before trading.
Plus500’s video lessons use visuals well and explain basic terms in plain language. They are a good starting point, but our testing found less depth on risk management and market context.
Customer Support
Plus500 has clearly better customer support. It provides multilingual assistance 24/7 through live chat, WhatsApp, and email. eToro offers a chatbot, tickets, and live-agent support, but its service is only available 24/5 and has no direct phone or email route for standard users.
In our support tests, Plus500’s live chat replies arrived within a few minutes and were professional. Its FAQ section is also broad enough to answer many account, funding, and platform questions. The absence of phone support remains a drawback for urgent matters.
eToro’s support can handle fees, account questions, and trading guidance, but the ticket-led process can feel slow when money or access is at stake. We found the lack of a general phone line frustrating, especially compared with brokers that offer immediate escalation. Account managers can help, but they are not available to every client.
Is eToro or Plus500 Better For Beginners?
eToro is better for most beginners because it combines a low entry point, a $100,000 demo account, broad education, fractional shares, and CopyTrader. Its minimum first deposit can start at $50, although it varies by country. The simple layout makes it easier to move from practice to real investing.
Plus500 is also beginner-friendly because its no-expiry demo is easy to reset, the platform is uncluttered, and live chat is available 24/7. However, its $100 minimum deposit is higher, and its learning materials are less extensive. Beginners should remember that Plus500 is mainly a leveraged CFD broker, which carries a high risk of fast losses.
Is eToro or Plus500 Better For Experienced Traders?
eToro is the better fit for experienced discretionary investors because eToro Edge, advanced TradingView charting, broad markets, social data, and CopyTrader offer more ways to build and monitor ideas. It is especially useful for traders who mix shares, ETFs, crypto, and CFDs. Its advanced charting access can be restricted by account tier, which is an important limitation.
Neither broker is ideal for systematic traders. Our direct platform checks found no VPS or public API offering, eToro does not support MT4/MT5 automation, and Plus500 does not support MT4, MT5, or cTrader. Plus500 professional accounts may provide faster execution and higher leverage, but they do not solve the lack of algorithmic trading tools.
Is eToro or Plus500 Better For Short-term Traders?
Plus500 is better for many short-term manual traders because its typical EUR/USD spread of 0.6 pips is lower than eToro’s 1.0 pip. Its fast, focused interface, price alerts, and professional-account execution benefits can also appeal to active CFD users. It supports trading from 0.01 lots, which helps with position sizing.
There are limits. Plus500 does not offer copy trading or popular third-party platforms for algo trading, while eToro lacks MT4/MT5 automation and is not designed for ECN-style pricing. Both brokers charge overnight financing on CFDs, so day traders should close positions before rollover when their strategy allows.
Is eToro or Plus500 Better For Long-Term Traders?
eToro is the stronger long-term choice. It provides direct share access in many regions, fractional shares, 432 ETFs, 4,100+ shares, copy investing, and commission-free stock buying. Its inactivity charge only starts after 12 months without logging in, compared with three months without trading at Plus500.
Our investing tests also found that eToro’s wider non-CFD range makes portfolio building more practical. Plus500 is primarily a CFD broker, so it is less suited to investors who want to own shares for years rather than speculate on price moves. Neither platform stands out here for paying interest on uninvested cash.
Is eToro or Plus500 Better For Trading On Mobile?
Although Plus500 edges it on app store ratings, in testing we eToro better for mobile trading. Its iOS and Android app gives users full trading access, charts, historical data, support access, social features, and CopyTrader in one place. The addition of Tori AI agent investing and multi-sub-account management also gives the app a broader toolset.
Plus500’s app remains a strong option for simple CFD trading. It is clean, supports alerts, and makes order management easy, but it lacks eToro’s social investing and wider investing workflow. In our mobile sessions, eToro felt more complete, while Plus500 felt faster to learn for a first CFD trade.
Why Pick eToro Over Plus500?
Pick eToro for a larger investment universe, including 6,000+ instruments, direct shares, ETFs, crypto, fractional investing, and extended-hours US stocks. It is also the better choice for copy trading, education, market research, and building a long-term portfolio.
Hands-on use showed that its all-in-one dashboard is particularly useful for investors who do not want separate platforms for research, charting, news, and community ideas. Be prepared for a $5 withdrawal fee, slower withdrawals that can take several days to a week, and fewer options for automated trading.
Why Pick Plus500 Over eToro?
Pick Plus500 if you want simple, commission-free CFD trading with tighter major forex spreads. A typical 0.6-pip EUR/USD spread, no withdrawal fee, 24/7 support, and a clear platform make it a practical choice for active manual traders.
Our hands-on testing found its order screens, alerts, and chart layouts easy to use without much setup. The trade-off is a narrower research package, no copy trading, no third-party trading platforms, and an inactivity fee after only three months. CFDs are high risk and are usually not the best tool for long-term investing.
