Quick Verdict

Interactive Brokers is the winner in this comparison, outperforming Moomoo after we recorded hundreds of data points and ran hands-on tests, earning it the higher overall rating and our recommendation.

Interactive Brokers is the stronger all-round broker for global markets, low-cost investing, and advanced trading. Moomoo is easier to enjoy for active stock and options trading, especially on mobile.

Both brokers are publicly listed, offer paper trading, support shares, ETFs and options, and charge no inactivity fee. Their platforms are powerful, but both can feel crowded when you first start.

Interactive Brokers wins on market reach, research, education, and pricing depth. Moomoo stands out for its mobile-first design, Level 2 data, quick support, and streamlined stock-to-options workflow.

Regulation & Trust

Interactive Brokers Moomoo
Trust Rating 4.5 4.2

Interactive Brokers has the stronger trust profile. It has operated for more than 40 years, serves over four million clients, is listed on Nasdaq, and holds major licenses including SEC, CFTC, FINRA and FCA authorization.

Moomoo also has a Nasdaq-listed parent, Futu Holdings, and operates through regulated firms in the US, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and Malaysia. Its protections vary by entity, such as SIPC cover up to $500,000 in the US and CIPF cover up to C$1 million in Canada.

When we mapped each broker’s legal entities and investor protections, Interactive Brokers offered the more established international framework. Both have faced compliance action: IBKR paid $20 million following a CFTC case and later a $2.25 million FINRA fine, while Moomoo faced FINRA fines of $750,000 and $125,000, plus restrictions in Japan and mainland China.

Check the exact account entity before depositing with either broker. Clone websites and social-media accounts are a real risk, particularly where fraudsters copy well-known broker names.

Accounts & Banking

Interactive Brokers Moomoo
Accounts Rating 3.5 3.0

Interactive Brokers provides the broader account range, with individual, joint, corporate, trust, advisor and US retirement accounts. Moomoo focuses on cash and margin accounts, with separate approval layers for options, short selling, recurring investing, IPOs and securities lending.

Both offer free paper trading, but IBKR’s non-expiring simulator includes $1 million in virtual funds. During paper-trading checks, we found that IBKR’s news feed could run 15 minutes behind, while Moomoo made it simpler to test screeners, alerts, charts and order tickets across web, desktop and mobile.

They are closely placed for banking, with different strengths. Interactive Brokers supports an industry-leading 27 base currencies, but funding is more limited for many non-US clients, mainly relying on bank wire and Wise; card and PayPal deposits are unavailable.

Moomoo supports more modern local payment routes in key markets, including ACH-linked funding and instant-deposit features in the US. When we followed the funding path across regions, Moomoo was smoother for domestic deposits, while multi-currency transfers and external broker transfers added settlement steps and FX friction.

IBKR withdrawals usually take around two business days, with a $50,000 daily limit and $100,000 limit over five days. The first monthly withdrawal is free, while additional withdrawals can cost about $10; this makes Moomoo more convenient for app-led local funding, but IBKR more flexible for international investors.

Assets & Markets

Interactive Brokers Moomoo
Assets Rating 4.7 3.3

Interactive Brokers is far ahead for market access. It offers shares, ETFs, options, futures, forex, bonds, funds, warrants, structured products, fractional shares and selected crypto across around 170 global exchanges.

Moomoo is strongest for listed securities. It offers stocks, ETFs, fractional shares, IPOs, options, extended-hours trading and spot crypto in some regions; Australian users can access more than 26,000 stocks and ETFs across the ASX, US and Hong Kong markets.

When we compared the trade-ticket asset menus, IBKR had the clear advantage for investors who need bonds, futures, global exchanges, or specialist products. Its additions include foreign retail access to the Saudi Stock Exchange, nine crypto tokens through ZeroHash, and three tokens through Paxos.

Moomoo is more focused but highly practical for US equity traders. Its 24-hour trading on eligible US shares and Monday and Wednesday single-stock option expirations, including contracts linked to major technology stocks and IBIT, give short-term traders more event-driven choices.

Both provide fractional shares and US market access. Choose Moomoo for a focused shares-and-options setup; choose IBKR for a true multi-asset, multi-country portfolio.

Fees & Costs

Interactive Brokers Moomoo
Costs Rating 4.3 3.0

Interactive Brokers offers the better overall cost structure, especially for global investors, larger portfolios and traders who need more than US stocks. It has no monthly or inactivity charge, competitive tiered pricing, and pays interest on eligible uninvested cash balances above $10,000, with stronger rates from $100,000.

Moomoo is extremely competitive for US shares, ETFs and options, with $0 commission for eligible US residents. However, regulatory, exchange, platform, financing and pass-through fees can still apply, so zero commission does not mean zero trading cost.

For a simple US stock trade of 100 shares, assume a $0.01 bid-ask spread and a buy-then-sell transaction. The estimated spread cost is $1.00: Moomoo’s commission is $0, giving an estimated total of $1.00 before regulatory fees, while IBKR Pro Fixed charges a $1 minimum on each side, giving an estimated total of $3.00.

That example favors Moomoo for small US stock trades. Across our pricing comparisons for international shares and larger order sizes, IBKR’s $0.005-per-share US commission and volume pricing were more consistent, while Moomoo’s region-specific charges can add up, such as US$0.99 for US shares in Australia and HK$3 plus HK$15 for Hong Kong shares.

IBKR users should watch for margin exposure fees on higher-risk accounts and charges for extra withdrawals. Moomoo margin users should check the live financing schedule carefully, because overnight borrowing can outweigh commission savings.

Platforms & Tools

Interactive Brokers Moomoo
Platforms Rating 3.3 3.0

The two platforms are closely matched, but they serve different users. Interactive Brokers delivers more advanced order control, desktop trading depth, APIs, backtesting and algorithmic features, while Moomoo provides a more polished stock-and-options workflow across mobile, desktop and web.

IBKR Trader Workstation supports an exceptional 63 order types, up to 338 customizable columns, and 155 chart studies. After building multi-window layouts in TWS, we found the control impressive, but the old-style design, frequent pop-ups and steep learning curve slowed simple tasks.

Moomoo includes Level 2 market depth, order-book data, options chains, heat maps, screeners, institutional tracking, unusual-volume views, earnings tools and live alerts. While moving from a screener result to an options chain and order ticket, the route felt faster and more natural than IBKR’s menu-heavy setup.

Both platforms have interface problems. TWS has no browser-based version and can overwhelm users with data, while Moomoo’s dense panels and layered menus took time to learn; during live order checks, its promotional banner occasionally covered part of the order panel.

IBKR has expanded IBKR Desktop with options lattice tools and advanced screeners, while its Model Context Protocol connection allows tools such as Claude, ChatGPT and Grok to analyze portfolios and draft trade instructions. Moomoo’s app remains the easier day-to-day choice for active equity traders.

Research

Interactive Brokers Moomoo
Research Rating 4.4 3.5

Interactive Brokers has the stronger research offering because it covers more asset classes and includes deeper portfolio analysis. Its toolkit includes economic data, company fundamentals, Trading Central insights, options ideas, ESG information and PortfolioAnalyst.

PortfolioAnalyst can combine bank, savings and investment accounts to show allocation, risk and performance in one place. When we traced a portfolio from holdings through risk data and ESG scoring, IBKR gave the more complete long-term investor view.

Moomoo is better organized for event-led share trading. It brings together real-time news, earnings reports, Level 2 depth, institutional tracker data, heat maps, market leaderboards and screeners without forcing users to leave the platform.

During screener testing, Moomoo made it quick to narrow US shares by exchange, sector and market theme. Its research is especially effective for earnings, analyst activity, unusual moves and short-term catalysts, although it does not match IBKR for bonds, funds or broad wealth analysis.

IBKR’s main weakness is navigation. Research tools sit across Trader Workstation and Account Management, so finding the right report can feel more complicated than it should.

Education

Interactive Brokers Moomoo
Education Rating 4.3 4.0

Interactive Brokers offers the stronger education package. IBKR Campus and Trader’s Academy include structured courses, videos, webinars, podcasts, quizzes and progress tracking for beginners through to advanced traders.

Its daily webinars cover platform skills, global products, options strategies and market topics. After working through course paths and platform lessons, IBKR’s material felt more like a complete learning center than a collection of short articles.

Moomoo Learn also provides useful beginner guides, platform tutorials, investment courses and a notably detailed options curriculum. It explains premiums, implied volatility, expiration, strategy design and options permissions in clear steps.

Moomoo’s education is strongest for shares, options and learning its own tools. The content can lead users back toward activity within the app, whereas IBKR provides broader training across global markets and investing styles.

Customer Support

Interactive Brokers Moomoo
Support Rating 3.0 3.3

Moomoo provides the better support experience. It offers live chat, email and phone support, with US phone hours from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM ET on weekdays and 24/7 live chat and online inquiry availability.

In seven support queries covering options, margin and extended-hours trading, Moomoo replied in under five minutes each time. The answers were clear, and most issues needed no more than two follow-up questions.

Interactive Brokers offers 24/7 phone support, live chat, secure messages, iBot and community forums. However, when we tested help routes around account settings and trading tools, live-chat waits and occasional outages made the experience less dependable.

IBKR’s iBot works well for basic questions, and its forums can be useful for detailed product issues. Still, overnight phone availability can be uneven, and support delays are more frustrating when a trader needs help during a live market session.

Is Interactive Brokers or Moomoo Better For Beginners?

Moomoo is the better starting point for most beginners. It has no minimum deposit in its main markets, a capable paper account, clear cash-versus-margin permissions, and faster support when users get stuck.

Its mobile app makes it easier to explore shares, watchlists, charts and simple orders before using real money. The main challenge is feature overload: when we explored its mobile menus, the many tabs and widgets could distract a new investor from the basics.

Interactive Brokers has excellent education and a $1 million paper account, but the account setup, limited payment methods and complex TWS platform create a higher learning barrier. It suits beginners who are willing to study first and want global markets from the beginning.

Is Interactive Brokers or Moomoo Better For Experienced Traders?

Interactive Brokers is better for experienced traders. It supports APIs, algorithmic trading, advanced order types, backtesting, futures, forex, global exchanges and tools for complex options strategies.

Its API and Model Context Protocol upgrade give advanced users more ways to connect analytics and trading workflows. There is no clear VPS service in either core offering, so traders needing hosted automation should confirm third-party compatibility and costs.

Moomoo remains a strong choice for experienced stock and options traders who value Level 2 data, fast market scanning and event tools. In our order-workflow checks, it was quicker for spotting a catalyst and opening an equity or options ticket, but it does not equal IBKR’s multi-asset execution environment.

Is Interactive Brokers or Moomoo Better For Short-term Traders?

Moomoo is better for most short-term stock and options traders. Its Level 2 depth, live market data, extended-hours access, options chains, unusual-volume tools and mobile workflow are built for fast decisions.

Moomoo also offers 24-hour trading on eligible US stocks and supports active strategies through its rich charts and market-depth tools. Its commission-free US share and options trading can be attractive, although financing, exchange and regulatory charges still matter.

Interactive Brokers is stronger for traders who scalp or automate across futures, forex and global markets. Its 63 order types, API access and sophisticated execution controls give serious traders more flexibility, though TWS takes longer to operate confidently under pressure.

Is Interactive Brokers or Moomoo Better For Long-Term Traders?

Interactive Brokers is better for long-term traders. It offers direct access to around 170 exchanges, broad ETF and bond choices, fractional shares, mutual funds, global currencies and no inactivity fee.

It can also pay interest on qualifying idle cash and provides Interactive Advisors for robo-style portfolio management. When we compared portfolio-building choices beyond US shares, IBKR had far more ways to diversify by region and asset type.

Moomoo works well for long-term investors focused on US, Hong Kong or Australian shares and ETFs, especially those using recurring investments. However, its strongest tools are designed around market events and active trading, rather than wide global wealth planning.

Is Interactive Brokers or Moomoo Better For Trading On Mobile?

Moomoo and Interactive Brokers are similarly matched for mobile trading. Moomoo’s app is the center of the product, not just a companion to desktop software, and it supports screening, paper trading, charting, options analysis, market depth, alerts and live orders.

Its ongoing product additions, including expanded crypto access and more single-stock option expirations, fit naturally into the app-led experience. The only major downside is visual clutter, particularly for users who prefer a clean investing dashboard.

IBKR Mobile is more approachable than Trader Workstation and gives access to a wide range of markets, plus it proved highly reliable during testing. It’s a solid supplement to its advanced desktop software.

Why Pick Interactive Brokers Over Moomoo?

Pick Interactive Brokers if you need the widest possible market access, including global shares, ETFs, bonds, futures, forex, funds and structured products. It is also the stronger choice for low-cost international investing, advanced order handling, API trading and long-term portfolio building.

Its strongest upgrades include Saudi exchange access, expanded crypto availability, a cleaner IBKR Desktop workspace, and AI-connected portfolio tools through MCP. It is built for investors and traders who want room to grow beyond a single market or asset class.

Why Pick Moomoo Over Interactive Brokers?

Pick Moomoo if you mainly trade shares, ETFs and options. Its Level 2 data, stock screener, earnings tools, options workflow and fast live chat support are especially useful for active retail traders.

Moomoo is also a strong fit for users who want commission-free eligible US trading, 24-hour access to selected US shares, and a practical paper-trading environment. It delivers more convenience than IBKR for stock-focused traders, provided you are comfortable with a busy interface and region-specific fee rules.

The IBKR Mobile app for iOS and Android allows you to access your IBKR accounts, monitor portfolios, execute trades, and view real-time quotes and charts. Its user-friendly design is ideal for new traders, offering a simpler experience compared to the more complex TWS platform.

The Moomoo app is a key part of the platform. It offers asset screening, market research, pre-market data, and market and pending orders. It provides more advanced tools than many basic investing apps, reducing the need for a desktop platform. However, its many features may take longer to learn than competing apps.
