Quick Verdict

Only Interactive Brokers accepts traders from USA. Given that Interactive Brokers is highly rated and earned our confidence during testing, it's our clear recommendation for traders in your country.

Exness is the simpler choice for active forex trading, with low entry deposits, fast funding options, 24/7 support, and an easy TradingView-powered terminal. Interactive Brokers offers a far larger investment range, including direct shares, ETFs, bonds, options, and futures.

Interactive Brokers has stronger regulation and deeper long-term investing tools. It is a Nasdaq-listed firm with more than 40 years of history, while Exness has operated since 2008 and focuses more on CFDs, forex, and short-term trading.

Both brokers provide demo accounts, competitive pricing, mobile apps, and strong research tools. The main trade-off is clear: Exness is easier to fund and use, while Interactive Brokers gives advanced traders far more markets and order controls.

Regulation & Trust

Exness Interactive Brokers
Trust Rating 4.0 4.5

Interactive Brokers offers the stronger trust profile. It has operated for more than 40 years, serves over four million clients, is listed on Nasdaq, and is regulated by major bodies including the SEC, CFTC, FINRA, and FCA.

Exness has been active since 2008 and protects client money through segregated accounts, negative balance protection, and PCI DSS data-security standards. However, its retail clients are commonly served through the FSCA, CMA, and offshore regulators in Seychelles, Curacao, the British Virgin Islands, and Mauritius.

We checked the regulator coverage and found that Exness no longer uses FCA or CySEC authorization for retail trading; those permissions cover its B2B and institutional business. Exness also has no broad investor compensation scheme, while Interactive Brokers’ public listing adds financial reporting and audit visibility.

Both firms have faced regulatory concerns. Interactive Brokers paid $20 million after a 2023 CFTC case and received a $2.25 million FINRA fine in 2025 over supervisory failures, while Exness has received warnings in some countries where it lacked local authorization.

Accounts & Banking

Exness Interactive Brokers
Accounts Rating 4.4 3.5

Exness provides the smoother account and funding experience. It offers Standard, Standard Cent, Pro, Raw Spread, and Zero accounts, while Interactive Brokers offers a wider legal account range for individuals, joint holders, businesses, trusts, advisers, and US retirement savers.

We opened an Exness account using Google sign-in, confirmed an email address and phone number, and uploaded identity and address documents. Approval took less than one day, and the dashboard let us change leverage up to 1:2000 without contacting support.

Exness starts from $10 on Standard and Standard Cent accounts, while the Pro account requires $200. Its Cent account supports small trade sizes, but we found it restricts clients to forex and metals and offers only six base currencies.

We set up the Exness demo with $10,000 in virtual money and adjusted its balance for practice. Interactive Brokers gave us a non-expiring paper account with $1,000,000, although some news data arrived with a 15-minute delay.

We funded Exness by card and saw the payment appear instantly; Skrill and Neteller took around 30 minutes, while Bitcoin and Tether transfers completed within an hour. It supports cards, e-wallets, crypto, and more than 40 base currencies, though payment choices and minimum withdrawal amounts vary by country.

Interactive Brokers limits most international users to bank wire or Wise transfers. We found this less convenient because cards and e-wallets such as PayPal were unavailable, withdrawals took about two business days, and extra monthly withdrawals cost around $10 after the first free one.

Interactive Brokers supports 27 base currencies and sets a $50,000 daily withdrawal limit and a $100,000 limit over five days for accounts using only basic authentication. That may suit larger portfolios, but Exness is more flexible for smaller deposits and frequent cash movements.

Assets & Markets

Exness Interactive Brokers
Assets Rating 3.5 4.7

Interactive Brokers is far better for market choice and portfolio building. It connects traders to about 170 global exchanges and supports shares, ETFs, bonds, options, futures, warrants, mutual funds, structured products, forex, CFDs, and selected crypto markets.

Exness covers over 100 forex pairs, plus CFDs on cryptocurrencies, commodities, indices, and shares. It is a broad CFD line-up, but there are no ETFs, bonds, options, or direct passive-investing features such as interest on idle cash.

We browsed the Interactive Brokers product search and used fractional-share access for US and European stocks. Its overnight venue also opened trading in more than 10,000 US stocks and ETFs for much of the week, which Exness does not match.

Interactive Brokers expanded its international reach by enabling foreign retail access to Saudi Arabia’s Tadawul exchange. It also added nine crypto tokens through ZeroHash and three through Paxos, broadening its regional crypto choice where the service is available.

Exness works best when the main need is leveraged forex or CFDs. Its share list is smaller, though it has added high-profile equities such as SpaceX after its IPO, and its crypto range remains narrower than specialist exchanges.

Fees & Costs

Exness Interactive Brokers
Costs Rating 3.8 4.3

Interactive Brokers has the stronger overall cost structure for investors and multi-asset traders, especially when its low stock commissions and interest on larger idle balances are useful. Exness remains highly competitive for forex traders who select its Raw Spread or Zero accounts.

We used Exness’ trading calculator to compare account settings for a one-lot EUR/USD trade. On the Raw Spread account, a 0.0-pip spread plus the listed $3.50 commission per lot produces a $3.50 base trading cost before swaps; on the Standard account, a 0.2-pip spread is about $2 on a standard EUR/USD lot, with no commission.

Interactive Brokers does not present a single fixed retail forex spread-and-commission figure in the pricing view, so a like-for-like all-in one-lot forex total cannot be fixed before the order. Its forex cost changes with the live spread, currency pair, pricing tier, and commission schedule.

For a concrete stock example, we entered a 200-share US stock order in the IBKR Pro Fixed pricing model. At $0.005 per share, the commission came to the $1 minimum; Exness does not offer comparable direct US share dealing, so its CFD pricing cannot be measured on the same basis.

Interactive Brokers charges no monthly inactivity fee and pays interest on eligible uninvested cash above $10,000 in net asset value, with better rates from $100,000. We also found its margin exposure fee difficult to predict because the amount changes with position risk and the broker’s calculation.

Exness has no inactivity fee and generally waives deposit and withdrawal charges, although processors can charge for some e-wallet and crypto withdrawals. Its 2024 spread reduction made Raw Spread and Zero pricing more attractive, but the several account pricing models can confuse new users.

One small Exness drawback appeared when we left a demo unused: inactive demo accounts can be deleted. Interactive Brokers avoids a similar account-idle penalty, but bank-transfer charges and extra withdrawal fees can raise the cost of moving money.

Platforms & Tools

Exness Interactive Brokers
Platforms Rating 3.9 3.3

Exness delivers the easier platform experience. Its Exness Terminal has a clean layout, TradingView charts, a simple watchlist, and direct account controls, while MT4 and MT5 give forex traders familiar third-party software.

We placed practice orders in Exness Terminal, edited the watchlist, and opened TradingView-powered charts without needing to leave the web platform. The layout was clear, but we could not use Renko charts, which limits traders who rely on that chart type.

MT5 adds Depth of Market, extra order functions, and an economic calendar. Exness also provides free VPS hosting for qualifying clients with either a $2,000 balance or a $500 balance plus $1.5 million monthly trading volume, supporting uninterrupted automated strategies.

Interactive Brokers’ Trader Workstation is much more powerful but harder to learn. We built layouts in Mosaic and Classic mode, added chart tools such as Fibonacci levels, and found 155 studies, 63 order types, and up to 338 configurable columns.

That depth caused real friction. TWS felt crowded, frequent pop-ups interrupted workflow, and setting up large column layouts made important trade details harder to spot; it also has no browser-based version.

Interactive Brokers improved its lighter IBKR Desktop platform in 2024 by adding tools such as the options lattice and advanced screeners. It also introduced Model Context Protocol connectivity in 2026, allowing AI services including Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok to analyze portfolios, track risk, and draft instructions in natural language.

Interactive Brokers remains the stronger choice for APIs, advanced options strategies, backtesting, and algorithmic trading. Exness is the better fit for traders who want a faster path from chart to order ticket without mastering a complex desktop workstation.

Research

Exness Interactive Brokers
Research Rating 4.3 4.4

The two brokers are closely aligned for research, but they serve different needs. Exness makes forex-focused tools easy to find, while Interactive Brokers provides richer fundamental, portfolio, options, and market research.

We used the Exness trading calculator to change leverage, account type, lot size, and currency pair, then reviewed the margin, pip, spread, and commission results. Its currency converter also returned live rates for major and exotic currencies, while FXStreet news, Trading Central signals, and the economic calendar covered daily market events.

Exness falls short on original analyst reports. We also found the calendar filters basic, and Trading Central material did not sit directly inside Exness Terminal, which added extra clicks during chart work.

At Interactive Brokers, we opened Trading Central’s Market Buzz and hovered over company bubbles to see how often firms were being discussed. We also used PortfolioAnalyst to review asset allocation, portfolio risk, linked accounts, and ESG information.

Interactive Brokers offers more depth for investors, but its research is scattered. We had to move between Trader Workstation and Account Management to locate several tools, which makes the experience less smooth than it should be.

Education

Exness Interactive Brokers
Education Rating 2.8 4.3

Interactive Brokers is much better for learning. IBKR Campus and Trader’s Academy include structured courses, videos, webinars, podcasts, quizzes, platform guides, and progress tracking for beginners through to experienced investors.

We opened an IBKR course, followed the progress tools, and reviewed its options and global-market lessons. The daily webinars add practical help from industry speakers, including platform walkthroughs and strategy sessions.

Exness offers useful Help Center articles, market insights, strategy posts, and a demo account. We searched its Help Center for trading terms and platform settings, and the explanations were clear, but there were no full learning paths, video lessons, webinars, or guided courses.

For self-directed forex practice, Exness is adequate. For a person learning investing, asset classes, platform use, or options from the ground up, Interactive Brokers provides a far more complete education service.

Customer Support

Exness Interactive Brokers
Support Rating 4.5 3.0

Exness provides the more reliable everyday support service. It offers 24/7 multilingual live chat in 15 languages, which is particularly useful for traders outside standard business hours.

We contacted Exness through live chat about withdrawal charges and received an answer within minutes. A more detailed VPS question required email support and took a few hours, but the response explained the balance and trading-volume conditions clearly.

Exness does not provide phone support or dedicated account managers. That is a drawback for clients who want a person to call during a payment or platform issue.

Interactive Brokers offers phone support around the clock, platform live chat, a secure message center, iBot, forums, and community chat rooms. We used iBot for basic account questions, but it could not replace a person for detailed trading or funding issues.

We encountered standard live-chat waits at Interactive Brokers and saw occasional chat outages. Overnight phone access was also less consistent than the advertised 24/7 coverage suggests because international desk hours affected when an appropriate agent could respond.

Is Exness or Interactive Brokers Better For Beginners?

Exness is better for most trading beginners. A $10 minimum deposit, a $10,000 adjustable demo, simple Exness Terminal, fast card and e-wallet funding, and 24/7 live chat reduce the barriers to getting started.

Interactive Brokers has the stronger education library and a non-expiring $1 million paper account. However, its bank-transfer-only funding for many users, delayed paper-account news, complex platform, and slower support make the first steps feel more demanding.

Is Exness or Interactive Brokers Better For Experienced Traders?

Interactive Brokers is better for experienced traders who need advanced tools across many markets. TWS supports sophisticated order handling, APIs, backtesting, options tools, algorithmic trading, 155 chart studies, and AI connections through MCP.

Exness remains a strong specialist choice for experienced forex traders. Its MT4 and MT5 support automation, while the qualifying free VPS can help maintain automated systems, but it cannot match Interactive Brokers’ direct access to global shares, options, futures, and bonds.

Is Exness or Interactive Brokers Better For Short-term Traders?

Exness is the better fit for many short-term forex traders. It supports scalping-friendly MT4 and MT5 workflows, fast account funding, leverage up to 1:2000, and Raw Spread pricing from 0.0 pips with a $3.50-per-lot commission.

Interactive Brokers suits active traders using stocks, futures, options, or sophisticated order logic. Its 63 order types, APIs, and low commissions are valuable, but TWS takes longer to configure and its forex all-in pricing is less simple to estimate before trading.

Is Exness or Interactive Brokers Better For Long-Term Traders?

Interactive Brokers is clearly better for long-term traders. It offers direct share dealing, ETFs, bonds, mutual funds, global exchanges, fractional investing, Interactive Advisors, and interest on eligible uninvested cash.

Both brokers avoid a monthly inactivity fee. Yet Exness is mainly a CFD and forex broker, with no ETFs, bonds, options, or interest on spare cash, so it is less suitable for building a diversified long-term portfolio.

Is Exness or Interactive Brokers Better For Trading On Mobile?

Exness is the better mobile choice. Its app experience is more approachable for placing trades, managing funds, checking watchlists, and using a clean TradingView-based environment without the heavy setup required by TWS.

Interactive Brokers’ mobile app is a useful escape from the dense TWS desktop interface and gives advanced users strong market access on the move. Still, Exness is easier to navigate for quick forex and CFD trades, especially when account management and payments matter.

Why Pick Exness Over Interactive Brokers?

Pick Exness for low-barrier forex and CFD trading. Its $10 entry point, multiple account types, card and e-wallet payments, over 40 base currencies, 24/7 multilingual chat, and simple web terminal make daily trading easier.

It is also appealing for traders who want MT4, MT5, high leverage, low-spread account options, and a possible free VPS for automated trading. The main compromise is less regulatory strength and a much smaller range of long-term investment products.

Why Pick Interactive Brokers Over Exness?

Pick Interactive Brokers for direct access to global markets and serious portfolio tools. It offers around 170 exchanges, direct shares, ETFs, bonds, futures, options, fractional shares, robo-advisory features, and advanced research.

It also suits traders who value top-tier regulation, a listed parent company, powerful APIs, algorithmic tools, sophisticated orders, and interest on qualifying cash balances. The trade-off is a steeper learning curve, less convenient payments, and a platform that can feel overloaded.
